Report on the Preliminary exercise

The Preliminary Exercise is a mandatory piece of production work for the As Media coursework and consists of a 30 second clip of a telephone conversation. For this practical we were split into groups of five by our teacher and from there were produced a storyboard individually. Once everyone had completed this task we decided which was the best one and quickly after began filming after a quick location search. The location we chose was an office outside of our school reception. This was to emphasise the professional status of the two characters.

When filming we practiced using different techniques such as match on action and shot reverse shot. We also played with camera angles such as an over the shoulder shot.

Editing
Once we had finished filming we were split up into even smaller group to make editing easier and fairer. I was paired with a girl named Shannon. At the beginning we had difficulty uploading the files as not all of them were transferring to MP4 and consequently we were left with not much time to finish. However, we were informed that we were able to work on it the next lesson. As we finally got started we started utilizing many editing effects such as fade to black. But our main focus was to get the continuity between shots right.
